Individual psychotherapy is an essential part of growth and can be a catalyst for change when going through difficult times or stressful events. When working with individuals, I utilize techniques that are proven to be successful. When beginning an initial treatment, I always start with a complete and thorough psycho-social and clinical assessment to outline areas of difficulty in the client's life. After this, I work collaboratively with the client to form treatment goals which are the backbone for therapy. I utilize several techniques including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Humanistic, and Systems models.
Along with proven and successful clinical techniques, the most essential part of therapy is the client and therapist relationship. I truly feel that my greatest asset as a clinician is my ability to communicate and understand a very diverse population of individuals. I do this with sincerity and humor. While therapy is serious business, I believe an open, relaxed and trusting relationship allows therapy time to be useful and very rewarding. Often clients tell me that while at times sessions can be personally difficult, they look forward to the time of genuine support and growth that they experience.
If you are currently going through a difficult time in your life, or perhaps are just searching for growth and wanting to utilize your potential more effectively, do not hesitate to call me. I have successfully worked with many clients and patients who have suffered from depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, all ranges of personality disorders and of course multitudes of personal adjustment problems associated with debt, bankruptcy, divorce, breakup, cheating spouse, affairs, abuse, child transitions and conflict and career changes. I welcome you to contact me at any time to set up an initial consultation to discuss how therapy can work for you.
Couple and Family Counseling:
As a Clinician trained in Marriage and Family Therapy, I realize how much our families and relationships effect and mold who we are. Our families, marriages, and relationships greatly impact our daily life and at times, we are unaware of problems until some sort of major difficulty or issue is found. As a systemic psychotherapist, I closely look at how all the pieces of a relationship are working together. Often very slight adjustments can make the whole unit work more smoothly.
When working with couples and families it is essential to realize that often times someone in the room would rather not be there. It is not uncommon to find relationship counseling or family therapy very difficult to start. Often people don't seek out help until an issue has become so large that it has caused a great deal of hurt in each and every member's life. Don't wait any longer! It is important to know and understand that with the assistance of a trained therapist, some of the most difficult situations and problems can be resolved.
I work with couples and families in a very non-judgmental but direct way. I find that while individual counseling can be long term, most couple and family issues work well with a brief and time limited model, addressing here and now problems and solutions. Often, I hear from clients that their partner or child is, "impossible to fix", and that "no amount of therapy" will help their situation. I often explain to these people that the most difficult thing to do is take the first step and that starting the process often reveals personal growth and insight never before realized.
Group Therapy:
Group therapy is often one of the most effective and beneficial forms of therapy around. Not only does it allow you to have input from a trained professional, but it allows for group feedback and peer support. Often groups are not implemented enough in modern treatment plans and many clinicians don't offer group therapy. I provide several groups at any given time and strongly encourage you to contact me about your group needs or enrollment in a current group.
